Psychonaut 4 Interview

1. First of all, I'd like to thank you for taking the time for this interview. I really appreciate it.

- Fuck & Drug to every single listener of Psychonaut 4! Thanks for interviewing us.

2. Let us start this interview with a short story behind the band? How was it formed and what are the plans for the future?

- Well, band was formed in july, 2010. I met Andre in 2008 at some shitfucking live show of georgian bands, i had an idea to form a DSBM band.
my friend Philosophus (from Empty Tears) told me that Andre plays guitar well, so i told to Andre about my idea, (of DSBM band) but he thought that i was not serious, 'cos at that time i was dressed in Marilyn Manson t-shirt :)) then i met andre at some "gig/drinking/fuckingup", so at that day i asked him about our project, but he told me that he's very busy with his band Empty Tears and he phisycally has no time for new projects.so at last we became a big friends and we seen that we have almost the same taste in music.so in february 2010 he called me and said that he's agree to play guitars in my project.then i told to friend Glixxx about our project, glixxx is a drummer but also plays guitar and bass as well, he showed me some his riffs and i saw potencial in his riffs and i asked him to play in our band.Me and glixxx met drifter on his live show,he is drummer too but also but he plays guitar as well,so he asked us to join to our band, 'cos he likes dsbm music. i said: fuck why not?ok,man u're in.Then i told about drifter's coming in a band as guitarist, and andre said, perfect,i'm tired to play guitars,i wanna play bass, 'cos i'll have more time to create music.so we were looking for a drummer. borger, who is playing in punk rock bands aked us to play with us,but he was playing with us 3 month.in 17 july 2010 we had first rehearsal. In future we plan to play live shows in some european (and not only european) coutries and also we plan to make a good music for P4 listeners.

3. What’s the meaning of the name Psychonaut 4?

- Psychonaut 4 means:as u know psychonaut is a guy who likes psychotropic drugs.and 4 is number of buzz platos which u can reach with DXM(Dextromethorphan).

4. What's your comment on (Black) Metal scene in Georgia? How often do you play live shows and are people interested in them? (Since in Serbia no-one gives a fuck about great bands that play live)

- nowadays black metal in georgia has really big potencial.at this time we have 4 "active" BM bands:Psychonaut 4,Diabolus Sanctus(true black metal),Im Nebel(progressive bm),Signs(sympho bm), but there are some "passive" bands like empty tears(dsbm), ruins of faith(pagan bm),adramalech(dsbm) & etc. well, what can we say about listeners.. LOL. they dont really listen to BM music, mostly they like thrash,death,deathcore,punk..."driving music".
We play live shows about 1 live show in 1'5 month

5. I understand that there is a split tape coming out soon with Force Fed Life, Moloch and Empty Tears. Can you tell me how did it come up to this cooperation?

- we've got invitation to record a split with this Force Fed Life, then Moloch and Empty Tears were included.

6. (Question for Graf) What inspires you the most to write lyrics?

- The most what isnpires me is my negative/depressive nature "trips" and vodka and the fucking town where i live now, really hate this place.also my drunk conversations with Andre about music and world

7. (Question for Andre) I’ve been told that you’re the one making all the music, so can you describe how does the writing process look like?

- almost all the music. antihuman (my favorite on 40%) is written by Glixxx..
for the split i'll contribute music for Psychonaut 4 & for Empty Tears as well.
writing process..writing process...i don't know. inspiration comes from lots of vodka, lots of depression, lots of hate & similar shit like that. oh, and i wanna know, why does our listeners think that we are a "lifelover copies" or a "new shining" ? i really respect those bands & i like them, but im not inspired by them at all, really! this Psychonaut 4 shit is way different & "stronger" IMHO!.

8. What do the promoters have to do to see you live in their country?

- to see in their country promoter must just help us with arrival, provide us with some cheap hotel, lots of vodka & ugly whores(hahaha)

9. What is the most disgusting thing you’ve ever done?

- G.V.Baphomet: I made so many disgusting things so i don't know which one is the most.at once i was fucking a stupid girl, i was so drunk that i womit on her,and when she was sucking my dick i've pissed in her mouth.i'm so cute, yes? hahaha
- Andre: i played sober on a liveshow.

10. What types music do you enjoy besides DSBM?

- G.V.Baphomet:also i like Bm,post punk,trip hop,classical music,minimal techno...i really listen too much music of many jenres(but not death/power/heavy metal)
- Andre: FRENCH BM!!! post-punk,dark ambient,old school hip-hop, thrash metal, trip-hop & etc.

Thanks Malaise Interieur!...

Psychonaut 4 - 40% Demo

Psychonaut 4 is a Georgian band that was formed in the summer of 2010. Their first release is demo named 40% which is limited to 100 copies on tape available via Depressive Illusions Records (UKR)
The demo consists of 3 songs: "Serial Lier", "Parasite" and "Antihuman [Drug=Друг]"
In 22 minutes (which is the lenght of the demo) they've showed that this band has some serious potential.
They describe their music as Modern Suicidal Narcotic Depressive Black Metal and lyrics are mainly based around drugs, alcohol and depression. Influence of Lifelover in band's  music is obvious but it doesn't sound like a cheap rip-off as they have injected it with some dose of personal touch.
Graf Von Baphomet has done an awesome job on vocals as they're really disturbing and intrigue the listener into paying attention to their music, and that is really important.
Most of the bands in today's (Depressive) Black Metal scene have really crappy vocals that sound like a 12 year old girl crying for attention and that usually draws the listener away from band's music.
Guitars are done by Glixxx (Im Nebel, Snatch etc.) and Drifter (Monofucktura) and they sound quite nice, especially in the first song "Serial Lier" where they create really (un)pleasant atmosphere which is contributed by the tortured vocals of Graf.
Drums done by Nepho are really admirable and along with Andre on Bass they just contribute to the ambiance of the Demo.

As much as I tried I couldn't find any flaws to this relelase.
I think it's the best demo I've heard for quite some time.
Be sure to check this band out and if you like it you can support them by buying their demo directly from the label. (as copies from the band are sold out long time ago).

This really deserves a good grade so I'll give it 9/10.

2.21.2011

HERE WE HAVE AN INTERVIEW WITH AMERICA'S "AZORDON"!!

1. AVET: For starters, thanks for doing this!! Readers of malaiseinterieur.blogspot.com will be pleased!!

2. AVET: Let me start off saying ''Annihilator'' was the first Raw Black Metal album I downloaded, so it's pretty special to me!! Now, here's the first question:
Why make covers of non - black metal songs like ''Replicas''?

AZORDON: Thank you! I'm glad some people get something out of what I do!

In regards to "Replicas", well, why not? I listen to quite a variety of music including non - metal artists such as Gary Numan and A Flock Of Seagulls and I always loved the Replicas album even before I got into Metal so I thought I'd give it a try to cover it. Besides, this isn't anything new, my some of my favorite metal artists have done this a lot too! Take Lycanthropy's Spell's Tribute EP for instance which has a cover of Bahaus and Kino as well as "Winter Dreams" by Accept which isn't a black metal song.

3. AVET: Do you prefer Azordon to Kvasta?

AZORDON: Azordon obviously, it's my main project.

Kvasta and Metookie are side projects I did when Azordon was in its earliest stage of development when everything was new to me and I wanted to explore some other ideas I had going on that I felt weren't fit for Azordon at the time. I definately prefer Kvasta to Azordon's early material from 2008 - 2009 such as the demo, Blood Goat split, and Hateblood, but as Azordon progressed throughout 2009 to now, I don't see much need for Kvasta anymore and only really do it on the side when I want to take a break from Azordon. Lately, I'm planning on focusing on Azordon almost the whole time though because my other projects sound somewhat similar now and I'd rather just do Azordon which blends everything together.

Back in the early days, the original intent was that Kvasta was a sort of folk/viking black metal project while Azordon was a more "true" project at the time I guess, I'm just really glad that's not the case anymore and that Azordon evolved into it's own style which actually I do owe to Kvasta (and my natural progression as a guitar player haha!) because Kvasta let me try out and record new ideas and riffs that Azordon didn't do at the time.

4. AVET: Is Azordon just a fuckin' joke or are you taking the whole thing seriously?

AZORDON: I knew this would come up sooner or later after The Walls ov Pandemonium was released and I'm glad haha!

Well first off, Metookie was around since 2008 and the first demo, The Kvlt Wars was created in August 2008 and that release and overal project can be called a joke/comedy. That was before Azordon even finished the first demo!

Anyways, I wanted to do more of this with Azordon as well because something just made me want to take things a step further into obscurity which I can definately say was a great thing!

And honestly I got so sick of the stupid black metal scene and how some people and bands take shit so fucking seriously and make a whole lifestyle out of it acting like they own the universe just because they listened to some Darkthrone and Mayhem songs on YouTube. I just want to do my own thing and have my own ideas. I don't even call my music black metal for the most part, I call it "Azordon Metal" or just Azordon. At the same time, maybe I am black metal because to me, black metal means being yourself and doing your own thing, but if that's not the case anymore and black metal really means being "true" and confining yourself to a stupid category, doing things only a certain way, appealing to a certain narrow-minded fanbase, obeying some kind of hidden "rules" and formulas and whatever, than I would rather be a so called "poser" any day! Azordon pretty much evolved and merged everything together into its own entity. I guess I take my music seriously in a fun way if that makes sense. I'm serious with my instruments like anyone would be, but as far as the themes and vibes go, I'm really just having fun and doing what comes to mind whether it's a song about some joke or forests or whatever, I don't even write any lyrics for my music and never did from the start. To me it's all about atmosphere and feeling really. Oh and kick ass guitar melodies! I'm not trying to prove anything or fit into some stupid catagory.

5. AVET: Tell us more about your plans in the future?

AZORDON: Just make more music and have fun basically. I don't know what the future holds of course. Maybe I'll have other projects with other people, maybe we'll all vanish into thin air tomorrow, who konws?

As far as making my music and plans for it, everything I do for the most part is improvised and I have very vauge goals for the future. I just live in the moment and see what I come up with. At times I am a bit more focused, for instance on Fragments ov Sorrow, I wanted a mostly acoustic/ambient release and The Walls ov Pandemonium and A Majestic New Paradise Awakens I wanted to do some crazy fun shit! But everything I do regarding the composition, song titles, album titles, album artwork, etc. It all comes in its own time. I just make songs and save them, as the list grows, I begin to come up with the album name, play around with potential pictures for album covers I photoshop, and so forth.

6. AVET: Which bands are your influence?

AZORDON: As I said before, I listen to a lot of different stuff and to list each and every influence I have is pointless and tedious. But I'm pretty sure many people can tell what a few of my influences are based on past songs I have covered and my overal style and atmosphere.

Ildjarn in particular has always been an influence with the raw and hateful lo - fi minimalistic greatness it made! A few other notable projects include Lycanthropy's Spell, Moonblood, Astrofaes, Anthropolatri, Vondur, Windir's demos, Azhubham Haani, Ulver's old stuff, Burzum, Bathory, Gromm, Svarga, Rundagor, Isengard, Diabolical Masqurade's first album, Satyricon's first album, and just so much other stuff including ambient, dark ambient, clean/folk/acoustic stuff, movie/videogame music, and some non metal artists.

Metallica got me into Metal when I was fourteen and I listened to all the usual shit like Slayer, Megadeth, Exodus, Venom, Possessed, and Death and later on Bathory got me into more black metal and then I got into Burzum and it just keeps piling up from there with many different bands from different genres (Black, Death, Thrash, Power, non metal stuff, etc.) so I think you get the idea.

7. AVET: Will you do any other splits in the future? I love the Blood Goat one!

AZORDON: Thank you! If any band is interested and messages me on MySpace or something than I am most likely going to do one with them, but the band has to be unique and obscure, take Valkynaz and S.O.D.D. (Strings Of Distorted Doom) for example! Both great bands and friends of mine that you should check out by the way!

Otherwise, I am absolutely not interested in doing splits with generic bands who are just trying to be "true" and "evil" and play very bland, boring, and predictable music.

8. AVET: How do you feel about Noise in Black Metal?

AZORDON: Are you reffering to the harsh lo - fi quality contained?

Well considering the fact that most of my favorite bands and influences are lo fi and raw like Ildjarn, Lycanthropy's Spell, Moonblood, Rundagor, Valkynaz, and S.O.D.D., than I can say that I love it very much! I absolutely love the atmosphere contained within, it's just amazing what you can do with it!

But some bands just have really bad quality that makes the music too hard to hear or it's just too boring and predictable for me. And I mean really bad, like completely static noise that's overpowering and loud screeching. I'm sure a lot of people out there will say that's exactly what my music sounds like, but I'm sure those are the people who find Dimmu Borgir or Transilvanian Hunger by Darkthrone to be the most harsh quality out there, anything more like Ildjarn and Moonblood is just too much for them. Good riddance I say haha! Anyways, I think there's a good line between Ildjarn style quality and just really bad noise.

9. AVET: Tell us more about your improvisations!!

AZORDON: I just make stuff up on the spot usually with riffs here and there being made before I start recording, otherwise I just play a riff and see what comes from there. I always change melodies and whatnot because that's just how I play and what I love to do. I KNOW that a lot of black or whatever metal is repetative or something, but I'm not a lot of black or whatever metal, I am Azordon!

You know, when I made my first demo, it was hard for me to compose it, I was doing what I said here about improvising on the spot with many different riffs, but I was trying to surpress myself into making songs with three chord progressions because I kept trying to make Azordon a more "true" and minimalistic black metal project at the time and it was just attrotious in the end. I felt like I was really stagnating and limiting myself when I should follow my instincts and do whatever comes to me instead of trying to be something I was not. But hey, you gotta start somewhere I guess and I wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for then so I guess things just grow. The split with Blood Goat was where I let go and did whatever came to mind merging everything together and have been growing off that ever since.

Basically though, I'm always playing my guitar, bass, keyboards, and whatnot. I can't go a day without it so I'm always comming up with new ideas!

10. AVET: Do you release CDs? If so, which label releases them?

AZORDON: I had my early Azordon and Metookie material released on CDs by The Black 666 label back in 2009, but for some reason they stopped releasing my music and some random stuff started happening with them I guess. I didn't really care either way though because by the time this started to happen, I got WinRar and a BlogSpot so I always share my music on there for free!

Sometimes I burn my albums on some blank CDs for my friends and send them out in the mail. But otherwise, I just like to post on my BlogSpot for free and for fun and wouldn't have it any other way really!

11. AVET: Non - metal music you like?

AZORDON: Various, as I said A Flock Of Seagulls, Gary Numan, Mortiis (Era I and Era II), Fata Morgana, Vond, Dark Ages, Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra, Burzum's ambient tracks (Mostly the ones on his Black Metal albums though). Clean stuff like Ulver's Kveldssanger, Drudkh's Songs of Grief and Solitude, Circle of Oroborous' Veneration, I like some stuff by bands like Nirvana, L7, Kino, The Irresponsibles (Yes, I only discovered them thanks to The Spoony Experiment!) video game music from games such as Doom, Duke Nukem, StarCraft, and Diablo, movie soundtracks from stuff like Escape From New York, and some other stuff I can't think of anymore. This is why I can't stand having to list a bunch of stuff...

I just listen to whatever I'm in the mood for really.

12. AVET: Thanks for your time!! Any last words??

AZORDON: Thank you for the interview and taking interest in my music, it's really enjoyable to see some people out there get something out of what I do!

Have a great day!!! :D

Stonecrypt interview

1. MALAISE: For starters, tell the readers something about "Stonecrypt" band.

SOTHIS: Hello, Malaise Interieur! We've formed the band in the summer of 2010., since we wanted to
play pure black metal, because we already have another band "Everything Dies" (DSBM), in which we both play,
and Hunter also has his band, Necroterror (Black / Death / Thrash) in which we couldn't express our ideas, so Stonecrypt
is the way of expressing ourselves through music. We are an underground band which records in home atmosphere,
so it's a home studio. Hunter plays the guitar and does vocals, while I program the drums.
HUNTER: I would like to add that there's also a session member in the band, who helps us with bass guitars.
Usually, Sothis and I make the bass lines, while Sejtan (session member, Necroterror) plays, because we aren't quite good
at that skilled.

2. MALAISE: I've given a listen to the demo, which is OK, but not original. Do you have any plans on getting more original sound and
go further into local Black Metal scene?

SOTHIS: Of course it's not. We will need time to get better at song recording. We still have to learn options of the drum mashine, and
some other things which altogether make the composition of the song. I'd like to add that "Morbid (Demo)" doesn't have any production or mastering
on it, and was recorded without any bass guitars.
HUNTER: When it comes to the Black Metal scene, our main goal is to gaze deeper into the underground waters. I've already noticed that
some blogs and websites already have our demo on them, which means a lot to us, since we've released a demo not that long ago.

3 MALAISE: Album is released via "Silent Scream" records. Can you tell us anything else about this label?

HUNTER: That is my label which serves the purpose of releasing my own bands. In the future, maybe even more stuff...

4. MALAISE: Since I've noticed that there are no published lyrics, could you lead us further into the story which hides behind your lyrics and covers?

HUNTER: Our lyrics are about occultism, evil, gloom and history. Usually I write about occultism and some evil themes, and gloom of course!! Also,
some comic books, books and some album covers inspire me to write.
SOTHIS: I like the theme of history. My texts are usually about the past in combination with occultism and darkness!

5. MALAISE: Do you have any influences on your music?

HUNTER & SOTHIS: No influence, like, a band influence, but there is Black Metal by itself.

6. MALAISE: "Stonecrypt" live?

HUNTER: It wasn't our goal to play live so, for now, no, but you never know...

SOTHIS: We'll play as soon as I reach the level of a metal drummer. For now just "Everything Dies", if it comes to me.

7. MALAISE: Plans with "Stonecrypt" in the future?

HUNTER: Plans... (thinks and laughs), maybe perfecting our "Stonecrypt" style, and publish a lot of work, and gaze deeper into BM scene and
become something...
SOTHIS: I agree with Hunter on this one. I'd like to add that my goal with "Stonecrypt" is to help, firstly, the Serbian BM scene as much as possible.
Next release will be the single "Morbid Faces" which will come out 20.02.2011. on tape.
HUNTER: The single will be strictly limited to 20 copies.

8. MALAISE: Last words are yours. Thanks on your time, and good luck in the future!

SOTHIS : Thanks on your attention, I hope to the future collaborating with you!
Also, I would like to thank on your review of our demo!
HUNTER: All information about us you can find on our MySpace page. Thanks for the interview and support. Hails.

9. MALAISE: I won't be calm until I'm serene.

Sothis tells Malaise Interieur to fuck off!

Stonecrypt - Morbid Demo

Stonecrypt is Serbian two-man band formed in Summer of 2010 and this is their first demo.
They play kinnda boring old school black metal, but they will develop their own style as time passes, I guess.

The demo starts with Keyboard intro “Dark Descent” which in my opinion does not fit the rest of the release at all.
The next song “Ancient Breed” sest up the tempo which will last pretty much through the whole demo along with shredding riffs and programmed drums. The vocals are good but they do resemble of Abbath sometimes, yet that's not a bad thing.
Third song “Morbid Faces” represented the band so far and will do it in the future when they plan to release "Morbid Faces" single which will contain Burzum and Marduk cover songs. This song is ok, but I noticed that it's little quieter than rest of this demo.
The next song “Upon the Stake” is possibly the worst one on the demo. Nothing that we haven't heard in the songs before and million times besides that as well.
The last song "Dwelling of Evil Souls and Darkness" is a bit different because mid-tempo and fast tempo are mixed. This song has the dark atmosphere that I think the band was heading to through whole demo and finnaly did it.

This demo is released on Silent Scream Records and it's limited to 50 Cdrs in slipcase.

This is a classic Black Metal project with no compromises, but than again, kinnda boring.
If you are a fan of real underground black metal, I think you'll enjoy this.
